About Cape Sebastian
Cape Sebastian, Oregon, is a steep headland that rises about 700 feet above the Pacific Ocean, near Pistol River, Oregon. It is near the geographical center of Curry County, the Southernmost county on the Oregon coast. The trails to the North and South of Cape Sebastian State Park offer awe-inspiring ocean and forest views.
There is a beach, about two miles long, that you can access from the Southern trail of Cape Sebastian Headland. This beach is now famous for its windsurfing competitions.
According to the historical landmark plaque, which is just north of the park entrance; "Spanish navigators were the first to explore the North American Pacific Coast beginning fifty years after Columbus discovered the Western Continents. Sebastian Vizcaino saw this cape in 1603, and named it after the patron Saint of the day of his discovery. Other navigators, Spanish, British, and American, followed a century and a half later." Cape Sebastian marked the northern limit of Sebastian Vizcaino's voyage.

Our History
Sixteen members of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) residing in the Oregon communities of greater Pistol River, Gold Beach, Wedderburn, and Brookings, sought to organize a local chapter of the NSDAR, in the early spring of 1981.
With the endorsement of Oregon State Regent, Doreen Chaise, and local DAR organizing members Ella Sponaugle, Virgie Crowder, Jane Hitchcock, and Alice Rausch, at least ten residents from the Pistol River, Oregon community submitted member-at-large applications, while organizers awaited NSDAR's chapter approval. Official news of the Cape Sebastian Chapter's successful formation came with a phone call from NSDAR Headquarters on December 5, 1981.
Ella Sponaugle served as our first Regent from 1981-1982.
